Department Introduction

The Department of Biotechnology was established in 2014 at Women University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Bagh and the programs of BS/ MSc/ MPhil were offered. Faculty of Biotechnology is currently comprised of 4 PhD and 4 MPhil faculty members - almost all of them are pursuing their doctorate as well. The faculty members are specialized in various disciplines of Biotechnology i.e., Environmental Biotechnology, Microbiology, Virology, Biochemistry, Molecular biology, and Human Genetics. The department has produced 364 graduates which are serving in academia, healthcare labs and national institutes in different capacities along with a considerable number of graduates who have qualified for pursuing their higher education in leading national and international universities. All the programs offered in Biotechnology are designed to equip the students with the knowledge and required set of skills to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, agritech, bioenergy and in other areas where bioprocesses are important, either in academic or industry settings. Moreover, department participates in national and international seminars to exchange knowledge and information.

The Biotechnology department envisions to instill updated and innovative knowledge of the subject and to produce well equipped human resource for national and global needs.

Mission

The mission of the Biotechnology Department at the Women University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Bagh is to provide its students with theoretical as well as practical knowledge in the rapidly advancing field of biotechnology and to develop critical thinking, analytical, ethical and entrepreneurial skills among the female graduates.

Mission

The mission of the BS Program is to educate students to understand important scientific issues, current technologies and future challenges considering local, regional and global needs by using outcomes-based teaching and learning framework.

Eligibility Criteria

Intermediate with Pre-Medical (equivalent to 12 years of education) with at least 45% marks.
