University of Delaware A Welcoming Dinner
Every journey begins with a single step, and mine started with a heartfelt application, where I poured my passion for learning into an essay. To my amazement, I was chosen for an interview, and soon after, I received the life-changing email: I had been accepted into the prestigious STEMSisters exchange program, a collaborative effort by the US State Department, AIPS, and the University of Delaware.
The prospect of venturing into a new country and culture filled me with both excitement and a touch of nervousness. This opportunity was a dream come true, perfectly aligning with my insatiable curiosity to explore new subjects and understand different cultures.
Dreams, those delicate whispers in our souls, invite us to delve into the realms of imagination and endless possibilities. They are the seeds of greatness, urging us to reach beyond the ordinary. My parents instilled in me the belief that dreams should have no limits, encouraging me to always dream big. Their wisdom became my mantra as I pursued my aspiration of visiting the USA to immerse myself in their culture and educational practices. Holding steadfast to this belief, my dream finally blossomed into reality.

Greetings! I am Shahzadi Ghazal Farooq, a student of BS Diagnostic Radiology and Imaging Technology. Hailing from the picturesque town of Bagh in Azad Kashmir, an independent state of Pakistan, my journey to the USA through the STEMSisters program was set in motion by an announcement from the Head of my Department. Thrilled yet slightly apprehensive, I navigated the rigorous application process, which demanded a CV, two essays, and two recommendation letters. The culmination of my efforts was an invitation to a virtual interview - my very first. The interview went smoothly, and soon, the moment I had been dreaming of arrived: I was selected for the STEMSisters program 2024. The news brought immense joy to my family, my teachers, and me. We were all over the moon, celebrating the beginning of an extraordinary adventure.
Overview of the STEMSisters Program
Group Click of STEMSistersThe STEMSisters program 2024 represents a premier three-week summer exchange initiative, meticulously designed and funded by the US Embassy in Islamabad, the American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), and the University of Delaware. This comprehensive program, covering all expenses from visa processing to return travel, aimed to provide an unparalleled opportunity for young women in Pakistan to advance in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The initiative sought to empower participants to tackle critical global issues, such as climate change, through a multidisciplinary and innovative approach.
This year's program brought together 27 outstanding young women from diverse regions across Pakistan, including myself from Bagh, Azad Kashmir. The selection process was highly competitive, ensuring that only the most promising candidates were chosen to participate. The program's curriculum was divided into two main phases, with intensive academic and practical engagements hosted at the University of Delaware and in Washington D.C. Participants benefited from a series of lectures, seminars, and field visits, all aligned with the overarching theme of "Climate and Environmental Change and Sustainability."
The STEMSisters program not only enhanced our technical skills and academic knowledge but also fostered a collaborative network of future leaders poised to drive significant advancements in their respective fields. Through this program, we were equipped with the tools, insights, and inspiration needed to make meaningful contributions to both our local communities and the broader global context.
